As the Medical Director of the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit (PCRU) at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH), his ACHRI administrative role is a fitting extension of his duties and will allow him to assist in the development of clinical trials policies, operating procedures, information systems and accounting programs, and new programs to facilitate and promote clinical trials on the ACHRI and ACH campuses. The growth of clinical trials research is a priority at ACHRI. This effort will further strengthen the lines of communication between ACHRI and the Department of Pediatrics. This move should also strengthen the communication and facilitate cooperation with the Office of Clinical Trials and the Research Support Center at UAMS both of which Dr. Wells serves as Director. Dr. Wells has been a physician for 25 years and been involved with clinical trials for over 20 years. Dr. Wells performed his residency in pediatrics at ACH and was Chief Resident. His fellowship training was in pediatric nephrology and clinical pharmacology and hypertension at the University of Minnesota. He then returned to ACH and UAMS. He later completed an MBA at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In addition, Dr. Wells has published numerous journal articles, and he is on the editorial board of and a reviewer for six medical journals. Dr. Wells served on the UAMS IRB for 6 years. Information about Dr. Wells’ research can be found at his researcher profile Web page. Information about the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit is available at the Clinical Research Web page.
