Ms. Birdwell joined ACHRI in 2003 as a full-time accounting manager. She supervises and reviews financial reports and audit requests for the Institute. She prepares the monthly research financial statements for ACHRI administration and its Board of Directors. Ms. Birdwell supports the working and financial relationship with the Department of Pediatrics at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital as ACHRI’s liaison to these organizations. She ensures that ACHRI meets federal and state regulations concerning not-for-profit entities, hospitals, and audits. She maintains duties with ACH Finance including administrative responsibilities, addressing financial inquiries, and specialized accounting requirements. Ms. Birdwell organizes teambuilding events for ACH Finance, and, by invitation, she participates in hospital-wide internal training for new employees. Ms. Birdwell joined ACHRI after six years of service in ACH Finance as a payroll and accounts payable supervisor. In that role supervised 8 people overseeing the payroll of over 5,000 ACH employees. In 2000, Ms. Birdwell’s dedication was recognized with ACH’s Committed to Quality Award for healthcare quality excellence. In 2001, she began assisting with grants accounting until assuming these duties full-time with ACHRI two years later. Prior to joining ACH, she worked for over four years as an accountant at a regional for-profit hospital; she also was an assistant controller at a construction equipment and supply company for four years. Ms. Birdwell earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and is a member of the Society of Research Administrators.
