Research Overview

In addition to the serving ACHRI as the Medical Director of the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit (PCRU) at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH), Dr. Wells pursues his research interests at ACHRI. He studies blood pressure and treatment for high blood pressure in children. Dr. Wells has conducted over 12 antihypertension studies through ACHRI since 1999 and has worked with most major pharmaceutical firms to develop pediatric trials for antihypertension drugs. Dr. Wells is involved in clinical trials through the NIH-funded Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU) at ACH. The PPRU conducts carefully controlled clinical trials to establish safety and effectiveness of many medications commonly used to treat a variety of childhood illnesses. Dr. Wells served as the Director of the PPRU for 10 years. As well as his commitments to ACHRI, Dr. Wells is the Director of the Office of Clinical Trials and the Director of the Research Support Center at UAMS.
