Research OverviewDr. Jacobs serves Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute not only as its president, but as a researcher as well. He leads research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health’s (NIAID) Collaborative Antiviral Study Group which aims to develop treatments for infectious diseases with no known treatments or where improved treatment regimes are targeted for development. In addition, he is involved in anti-infective pharmacokinetic trials in neonates, infants, and children through NIH-funded (NICHD) Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU). The PPRU, directed by Laura James, MD, conducts carefully controlled clinical trials to establish safety and effectiveness of many medications commonly used to treat a variety of childhood illnesses.
