Research OverviewAriel Berlinski, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Pulmonology Division at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and researcher at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute. He is also a staff Pediatric Pulmonologist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH), where he serves as a Medical Advisor to the Department of Respiratory Care Services. Dr. Berlinski serves as the Director of the Pediatric Aerosol Research Laboratory at ACHRI since it was established. The laboratory was established in part with funding from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and an endowment from the George Family Fund for Asthma. The mission of the laboratory is to help improve aerosol delivery in children through research and education. The main interest of the laboratory is to evaluate how “real life use” of the different aerosol delivery devices affects the amount of drug that is available to be inhaled by the children. Another, important aspect is the evaluation of current practices related to aerosoltherapy in an attempt to optimize their use. Dr. Berlinski pursues some of these projects jointly with members of the Respiratory Care Department Services at ACH. Dr. Berlinski is currently collaborating with other ACHRI researchers (Dr. Mark Heulitt and Dr. Stacie Jones). He has also collaborated with other institutions such as the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Missouri at Columbia. Dr. Berlinski also participates as a sub-investigator in Pharma sponsored trials. Also, Dr. Berlinski enthusiastically contributes to the education of fellows, residents, and students at UAMS by participating in the educational mission of the Department of Pediatrics in many capacities Key PublicationsA Berlinski and JC Waldrep.
