ARKANSAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE...WHERE MIRACLES BEGIN

Research overview

Dr. Asghar is Director of the Neurobehavioral and Developmental Delay Clinic and serves as a specialist in the Autism Treatment Network Clinic. Her research involves looking at predictive markers of subclinical seizures in children with autism. Along with collaborators Drs. Jill James, Sarah Blossom, and May Griebel, Dr. Asghar is investigating how subclinical seizures affect the redox states, electroencephalogram patterns and adaptive behavior scores of autistic children. An early identification and intervention may prevent progression into overt seizures. Dr. Asghar’s previous research involved the use of amphetamine as a model for mania measuring behavioral and cognitive changes and levels of neurotransmitters such as glutamate and GABA.
